What's Left of San Francisco

Caryl and I were in San Francisco and Sonoma for a week this summer. I took my point & shoot Lomo film camera to have some fun shooting from the hip contrary to Ansel Adams pre-visualization theory. I shot about ten rolls of film during the trip and was very excited when I got a disc of images and negs back from the lab only to find that the shutter of the camera was intermittently not firing. Out of those ten rolls I averaged about six images per roll of 36 exposures that worked. Time to buy a digital P&S I guess. Oh well, here are a three that are good examples of "on the way to somewhere else.

What You Find On The Way ...

I was in Lynchburg on a job shooting views of a new hospital and came across this electrician working in front of a newly installed painting in the lobby.

Honey Bees

Last spring I built a Top Bar Bee Hive, which is physically and philosophically different from the traditional Langstroth hive one sees in the "movies". It is based on the idea that bees know best what size and shape of comb to build and that they are not here only for the convenience of us humans. Some photos of very early building of comb, the hive, later build up and an egg laid in a cell. Here's a great website on beekeeping and Top Bar Hives: http://www.biobees.com/

Barney

I don't think Barney's mom cares anymore. Clean swanky swigs waiting for the next party.

Felix

I think Felix would be curious about this photo of himself. I really need to send his mom a copy ...

Ella

Ella would probably not appreciate seeing herself in this photo but I think her mom would.

Beer Drinking and Picture Taking

Weddings are wonderful venues for finding the odd picture. What more can you say ... drinking beer and taking photos go hand in hand

Helen's Flower

I guess I'm not as prolific a photographer as some folks as this is my first post in a couple of months. Anyway ... my next door neighbor, Helen, who is somewhere North of eighty years old is an amazing gardner. She's out there most mornings right at dawn planting, weeding, clipping and gazing at her accomplishments. This strange plant/flower is about five feet tall and six feet wide and has these dangling blooms all over it. It first bloomed earlier this summer, then seemed to be dying out and now it has come back with a second set of humongous blooms.

Buttercup In The Studio

Earlier this spring the band I play drums in, Buttercup, went into the studio to make a record. If we're lucky we'll have a CD out by the end of the summer.
